About Ellen_WEGO_Health:
Migraine attacks have been a part of my life for approximately 30 yrs. I have intractable migraine with and without auras, which are usually very profound and disabling, as well as Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalgias which include Hemicrania Continua and Chronic Cluster Headache. I also live with auto-immune thyroid disease and a rare movement disorder called Dystonia which complicates my treatment. I have many years experience as a patient of Allopathic, Osteopathic, Chiropractic, Homeopathic and Complementary Medicine practitioners throughout the mid-western United States. My personal experience as a Veterinary Assistant as well as Reproductive Technician of champion Arabian show horses and dogs gives me a somewhat unique health care perspective, as does my experience as a CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) Trainer and Manager and my work with local Emergency Management.
My home is in the country surrounded by the beautiful and picturesque rolling hills of Northeast Missouri where I live with my husband Dennis and 2 children. On any given day my home is filled inside and out with my own, or our "adopted" teenagers, cats, dogs (purebred Havanese and Huskies, rescues) and my beautiful horses. I enjoy working with youth and nearly all of my kids have gone on to compete successfully at the national level in various horse related activities. I enjoy research and learning for learning’s sake and truly believe the old (horseman’s) axiom, “Once you think you know it all, you have learned all that you will learn.” Although my health issues have forced me to retire from my jobs as both an Equine Reproduction Manager and Emergency Dispatcher, I strive to maintain a positive attitude and sense of humor, and choose to use my unique experiences to help educate others as well as myself in our journey toward optimal health for better living.
This is my first experience in the development of a public online community. Before WEGO Health I had the opportunity to become both a moderator and an extremely active member of many online forums where I enjoyed research, writing, and support of many other individuals with whom I shared the same experiences. I was excited to become a Community Leader, then Moderator here as I have experienced first-hand the benefits such online exposure can produce once I decided it was time to jump in and become pro-active in my own health care as well as that of my family. As a beginner, I found that searching online can be not only confusing, but discouraging. When I learned that I had the opportunity to be a part of something that had the potential to remove some of the confusion and difficulty involved in online searching and education for the masses, I couldn't wait to get started! Shared experiences make us all stronger and smarter, and I truly do believe that “Together we know what’s best”!
