About Stephen Gire, MPH:
Before joining the pediatrics department at Columbia University Medical Center, I received my BS in Biology from Colorado State University. There I worked in the virology department at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, researching vector-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus and Dengue Fever. Recently, I received my MS in Public Health from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, with an emphasis in health policy and management.
Last fall I wrote a proposal for a clinical study on malnutrition. I will be heading to Jos, Nigeria this spring to work with an organization called Faith Alive - a health and wellness clinic for women and children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. While there, I will help carry out this study on malnutrition. I am excited for the opportunity to serve the poor abroad and further my interests in global health.
